End of Term

Our last day of school before the summer holidays is Friday, 28th June.  There will be an early dismissal at 11.50 for infants and 12.00 for other classes.  We’d kindly ask that everyone be very mindful of not parking in either estate out of respect to our neighbours.  Afterschool @ KETNS will be open that afternoon.  Also, they will be running camps at the school for the month of July, and anyone interested in registering should contact Jenni.

Gaelbhratach

Beidh céiliúradh beag ann ar an Déardaoin nuair a gheobhaimid an Gaelbhratach.  On Thursday morning at 11.00, we will have a short ceremony to raise our Gaelbhratach.  We look forward to welcoming Áine from Gael Linn who will deliver the flag.  This is being awarded to the school for our efforts to promote spoken Irish in the school.  Beidh fáilte roimh chách!  All are welcome to attend!  Matt, along with Melissa and Robbie from Rang a 5, were on Galway Bay FM on Friday morning speaking about this achievement.  You can listen to the conversation by using this link: https://www.podbean.com/ep/pb-h3ine-164a1fb.

10th Anniversary Celebration

What a truly marvelous celebration we had to mark the 10th Anniversary of our school.  Sincere thanks to the children and teachers for all the preparation that went into the fantastic assembly.  We also were so fortunate with the weather, and it was a great afternoon.  Many thanks for all your generosity, energy and commitment to our school over the past decade.  We look forward to another decade of fantastic development and growth.  The event made the front page of the Galway City Tribune, and there were many pictures on the inside pages as well.  In addition to the pictures below, there are more on our website and our Facebook page.

SSE Wellbeing

Our current focus for School Self-Evaluation (SSE) is Wellbeing.  Over the course of the year, all members of the school community including children, staff and parents have been consulted.  A report on this consultation has been written and approved by the Board of Management.  It will inform the development of a School Improvement Plan (SIP) that will be written early in the new academic year.  The report is attached to this email.

Courtyards Development Consultation

Part of the School Improvement plan will focus on improving and enhancing outdoor learning spaces, including redeveloping the courtyards in the school.  Therefore, we are looking for parents to make suggestions and give opinions on this before the end of the school year.  At drop-off and collection times on Tuesday and Wednesday, parents are invited to participate in a short consultation process set up in the halla.  Please see the attached brief document outlining the basic proposals and about what information we are looking for from parents.

City Sports

Well done to all the children who represented the school at the recent City Sports Competition at the University.  Everyone rang their races very well, with many qualifying for semi-finals and finals.  Special congratulations to Maya in 6th Class who came in second in the 100m under-13 girls’ sprint, the first person from our school to win a medal at City Sports!

Reports

End-of-year reports have been released on Aladdin.  You can view your child’s report by logging in to Aladdin Connect.  If you have any questions regarding the report, please email your child’s teacher or phone the office to ask your child’s teacher to contact you.

Portfolios

All children have brought home their portfolios this past week.  This is a wonderful opportunity for you to talk with your child about the school year and recall their learning experiences.  Children in Senior Infants, 2nd, 4th and 6th can keep them at home after showing it to you.  Children in Junior Infants, 1st, 3rd and 5th, should return the portfolio to school if you haven’t already.

Gaelic Football Camps

This summer Salthill-Knocknacarra GAA Club will be running two football camps for boys and girls aged 5-12 years.

  • Camp 1 – Mon-Fri, 22nd- 26th July (10am-2pm)
