Impetigo and Head Lice

A case of impetigo has been reported in the school.  Although impetigo is not usually a serious condition, it is very infectious, and if not treated promptly complications may occasionally occur.  Impetigo is a bacterial infection that causes blisters on the skin that break and become covered with a yellow crust.  If you suspect your child has impetigo, please consult your GP for confirmation and treatment.  Also, head lice has been reported.  This is a gentle reminder to check your child’s head for lice and to treat the lice as soon as they are detected.  Many thanks for your cooperation.

Building Update

We are awaiting confirmation from the Department of Education and Skills regarding our relocation.  At present, it appears likely we will be in our current location for the remainder of this school year.  The Board of Management is working diligently to liaise with the Department and Educate Together to resolve this matter.  Once we have information from the Department, we will communicate it to the school community as soon as possible.  Thanks for your patience.

Voluntary Contributions

Apologies for the delay in distributing the letter for the voluntary contribution.  They will be distributed this week.  Many thanks, in advance, for your generosity.

World Book Day

First and Second Class had a fantastic day out for World Book Day.  They visited Charlie Byrne’s where they heard three great stories and then did some book browsing and shopping.  Then, they visited the Fisheries Tower and the Hall of the Red Earl on a guided tour organised by the Galway Civic Trust.

Ranganna Gaeilge do Thuismitheoirí (Irish Classes for Parents)

There has been good interest in Irish language classes for parents.  It is proposed that they will take place on Wednesday evenings from 19.00-20.00.  They will be saor in aisce (without a fee).  The first session will be on Wednesday, 11th April.  They will continue until the last session on Wednesday, 20th June.  All parents, from absolute beginners to those with experience, are most welcome to join the classes.

Engineers’ Week

All the classes have been very busy learning during Engineers’ Week.  Each class learned about the different ways engineers work to create new solutions for problems.  In addition to hands-on tasks, we were delighted to hear Nathan, a parent in our school, speak about his work as an engineer.  2nd class had a fascinating Skype call with Ellen, a biomedical engineer who works in the US but is from Galway.
