On Wednesday, we will have our annual Lá Glas. Everyone is encouraged to wear green. As part of the day, we will be making a special collection for Unicef and the Red Cross, two organisations that are working to support families in Ukraine and other parts of the world where there is conflict and poverty. If you’d like to make a donation directly to these organisations, please use these links: Unicef and Irish Red Cross.

Music Generation
We are delighted to begin two Music Generation projects in the school. Firstly, all children in 3rd and 4th Class will begin learning ukulele. Instruments will be provided and the school will pay for the cost of the specialist teacher, which is heavily subsidised by Music Generation. We hope they will continue these weekly 30-minutes sessions next year in 4th and 5th Class.

Secondly, there is an opportunity for some children to participate in small-group violin lessons with Ingrid Nicola. These lessons would take place during the school day on Mondays. The cost for these lessons (10 weeks until the end of the school year) is €80. The first session would be on Wednesday, 23rd March. Instruments will be loaned to the participants subsidised by Music Generation. If you are interested in your child participating, please sign up with Claudia and pay the fee to the school, which we will then send on to Music Generation. As places are limited, they will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.

Thelunchbag.ie
As a number of parents expressed interest in this lunch service, we will be launched in the school on 30th March. On this day, intro bags will be delivered to the school for each child which will be brought home for parents to see. The first delivery of ordered lunches will be on Friday 1st April. Going forward, if families choose
to participate, children will need to take home all packaging and food waste as part of our Green School programme, so it may be wise to send in an empty lunch bag each day. Please see the attached documents providing more details about this service.

Maths Games
We’ve heard great reports about the maths games at home. We hope they are an enjoyable activity for your families. Please be sure to return all the pieces in the bag at the end of each week, and if you find anything missing, please let your child’s teacher
know. Many thanks to the three parents so far who volunteered to talk about how they use maths in their daily lives. We look forward to arranging their visits soon. We are still looking for volunteers, so please contact
Matt if you are willing or if you have any questions
about what would be involved.

Engineers Week
This past week many of the classes marked Engineers Week by participating in design challenges. Senior Infants and 1st Class enjoyed a fantastic workshop
led by research students based at NUI Galway, Niamh, Oisín and Elena.
