Today the Green School Committee organised the first Action Day in our school. First, the Green School Committee met to ensure everything was in place. Then, after the first break we had a whole-school assembly in the halla.

Then, each class returned to their rooms and did a designated lesson on Waste and Waste Management. These lessons included learning about sorting waste and what items can be recycled, testing which items are biodegradable, learning about compost, experimenting with super-absorbent polymers and considering their environmental impact and studying how long plastics take to break down and the limits to recycling. Then in the afternoon the whole school returned to the halla in the afternoon to share about their learning.

Senior Infants buried different types of rubbish and will return in a month to see which are biodegradable.
Second Class explained what they learned about SAPs (super-absorbent polymers).

Finally, in the afternoon the Committee, along with parent volunteers, participated in the National Spring Clean to remove any rubbish from the grounds and the school vicinity.
