School Closure

A reminder that the school will be closed on Monday, 4th June and Tuesday, 5th June.  Places are still available for a one-day camp organised by Afterschool@KETNS on the 5th.

Accommodation Update

We have been informed by the Department of Education and Skills that the works required to prepare the former Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh builidng to become our permanent location are to take place during the summer.  We expect to be able to move in August to be ready for the first day of the new academic year in our new building.  The Board of Management is liaising with Educate Together and the Department regarding the scope of works to be completed.  We also have been informed that the Galway Steiner NS will be relocated in the pre-fabs located at the back of the site.  We are in the process of seeking further clarification from the Department regarding the proposed co-location and will keep everyone informed as soon as any further details can be confirmed.

Swimming

To make up for the swimming sesson that was missed, an additional session has been scheduled for Wednesday, 6th June.  This will be the final session this year.

Sports Day and End-of-Year Assembly

Sports Day and the End-of-Year Assembly will take place on Tuesday, 26th June at the Knocknacarra-Salthill GAA Club.  The last day of school will be Wednesday, 27th June.

Oíche Faisnéise Pleanáil Teanga Bhearna Cnoc na Cathrach

An information meeting for the Irish language plan for Knocknacarra and Barna will take place on Wednesday evening at Coláiste na Coiribe, the new sceondary school located off the Ballymoneen Road.  More information can be found at the end of this newsletter.  Therefore, there will be no Irish class for parents on Wednesday.  Instead, parents are encouraged to attend the event.  The school has been invited to participate.  First and Second Class have learned a song, and we hope that as many children as possible from these classes will be able to perform it at this community event.  We’ll gather at 19.00, and the children will sing at 19.20.  They will be finished by 19.25.  Families are welcome to stay to hear the other music and support the event.  Go raibh míle maith agaibh as bhur gcuid tacaíochta don imeacht seo!  (Sincere thanks, in advance, for your support for this event!)

We held our weekly Friday Assembly outside in the yard where the Junior Infants sang a fantastic song in Irish for the school.

 Portfolio Sharing Meetings

Many thanks to all the parents who attended the recent portfolio sharing meetings.  The meetings for First Class will be rescheduled for a date in June in the near future.  If parents for children in the other classes haven’t been able to attend a meeting yet, please contact your child’s teacher to arrange an appointment.

PTA Meeting

The next Parent-Teacher Association meeting will take place on Wednesday, 6th June at 20.00 immediately after the next Irish language class for parents at 19.00.  As always, all are welcome to both events!

Homework Policy

Attached is a draft Homework Policy.  It will be discussed at the PTA meeting, but you are welcome to give any feedback to Matt via email or in person before the end of next week.

School Tours

Information about the upcoming school tours will be sent home this week.
