June Bank Holiday
A reminder to parents that the school will be closed from Thursday, 1st June to Tuesday, 6th June inclusive. It will be an ordinary day on this Wednesday, the 31st
May, and we will start our last month of the school year on Wednesday, 7th June. Please note, 5th and 6th class will have swimming sessions on both Wednesdays.

Spring Fair
Sincere thanks to all the parents and particularly the Parent-Teacher Association for organising a fantastic day. The weather was perfect. Thanks to all the bakers, volunteers, parking attendants, face painters and workshop leaders. We are delighted that we raised over €6000 to support arts and physical education programmes in our school

Texaco Art Competition
Congratulations to Blanka and Riham who won Special Merit Awards in the Texaco Art Competition. We are particularly delighted that two of the five winners in
the competition from Galway are from our school! On Wednesday, an award ceremony will take place.

Parking
As always, we are asking parents to please be very safe and patient at drop-off and collection times. We are aware of one recent incident, and while no one was hurt, the potential is there. We are looking to form a group of parents who will volunteer to act as parking assistants on a rotating basis. If you are interested in participating, please reply to this email. We will organise a quick meeting to discuss plans to create a drop-off and designated area for turning so that traffic flows well and trial it before the end of the school year. In the meantime, it is very important that drivers not
make u-turns in unsafe areas, especially at the corner and in front of the school gates. Also, a friendly reminder not to park up on the kerb or mount the kerb, particularly near the school gates. Many thanks for your continued cooperation, and we hope to have as many volunteers as possible join us in helping implement a good traffic plan.

Hurling Blitz
Sincere thanks to Rahoon-Newscastle GAA for organising a fantastic hurling blitz. It was also the first time the children of the school wore the new school jerseys. They look fantastic, and we are grateful to our sponsors, Claddagh Credit Union and Health Services Staffs Credit Union, who contributed toward the costs of these jerseys!

Pyjama Day
The Student Council is organising a Pyjama Day on Friday, 9th June. This will be a fundraiser for UNICEF. Children and staff are invited to wear their pyjamas and bring a small donation for UNICEF.

Sports Day
Our annual Sports Day will take place on Thursday, 15th June. As usual, we are looking for a large number of parent volunteers to lead the activities that day.
Volunteers will need to be available from 9.15 to 12.15. All the equipment and activities will be arranged in advance, so all you have to do is come and assist us.

Philosophy at the University
Third and fourth class recently embarked on an exciting trip to the University of Galway for a thought-provoking philosophy workshop organised by Dr Lucy Elvis. The trip was part of their project called “When is Water Not Water?” which aims to explore various aspects of water in different disciplines linking with the Green School theme. The children will now create their own ‘water stories’ or characters to inspire people to care about or be interested in saving water. These stories will be published and available to borrow from Westside Library.

1st and 2nd Class School Tour
First and Second Class had a great time today at Loughwell Pet Farm, making the most of all the activities and the lovely weather.
