Several members of our staff received specialised training on how to use different circus equipment with Amélie from Galway Community Circus last Spring. She returned to school this week with new equipment as well as great lesson plans for teachers to use to explore concepts related to forces through circus skills and movement. Many thanks to Galway Community Circus for this opportunity!

We had great fun learning about forces and intertia.
It was great to experiment with gravity and balance. The children explored using the materials through a constructivist approach, understanding through trial and error how the poles can best be kept in balance.
The pois were great for learning about centripetal forces.
The children also experimented with the hoops to understand how to keep them in motion and to understand the paths of movement.
